Woman Arrested Following Reported Gas Supply Sabotage at Two Metropolitan Medical Facilities

One woman has been arrested following hospital gas systems were allegedly sabotaged at a pair of Sydney-area healthcare centers.

Sutherland Hospital in southern Sydney experienced disruption to medical gases on early Tuesday, forcing staff to transition to portable oxygen and air as an emergency measure, as stated by medical authorities.

"This incident of the loss of gases is alleged to be intentional interference," authorities stated.

They further emphasized that "{To allegedly do this represents extreme recklessness. The potential for disastrous consequences."

Law Enforcement Response

NSW police said they received notifications of "suspected intentional damage at multiple medical facilities in the Caringbah area." Sources indicate that the second location was a nearby private hospital.

Police alleged a female in her forties gained access of a hospital on Kareena Road premises at approximately just after midnight on Tuesday and "cut both the water and gas mains, before activating fire hoses."

Investigators additionally claim that at approximately 1:30 AM, "the suspect accessed the property of another hospital on the same street ... and reportedly deactivated the primary gas supply."

She was arrested in the Miranda area at approximately 4 AM on Tuesday morning for breach of bail, police confirmed.

Medical Facility Recovery

Health officials stated that medical gas supplies were restored by hospital teams and local health district "in about two hours time."

"Let me reassure the public patient care was not affected to medical services and that the facility has resumed normal operations as per normal," officials stated.

They added that "Entry to gas systems in public medical facilities is limited to authorized personnel. An investigation will examine the situation to see what improvements can be implemented."

Authorities revealed that the woman reportedly scaled a wall at Sutherland hospital and entered to a secured zone.
