A ranking policeman who jumped to the assistance of a partner that got attacked by a knifeman was granted the Monarch's Honor for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a blade to the throat of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the officers and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist subsequent to a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Policeman knifed," the constable stated over his radio.

Bodyworn and dashcam footage released by the police department revealed Brown, that was clothed in black with a hood up, approach to Sgt Foster from the rear with a blade pointed forward.

He ran into the officer who tripped and fell to the ground, before Sgt Ansell intervened and struggled to restrain him to the pavement although being continually attacked with the weapon.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a open target, bringing the confrontation to an conclusion.

Sergeant Ansell can be heard to say: "Can I get help on my throat here, I've been stabbed in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell received multiple deep cuts to his throat and more injuries to his arms and torso, whereas Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.

Officials said Sergeant Foster utilized his palms to stop his fellow officer's blood loss prior to medical personnel arrived.

This most recent award follows subsequent to the three officers won internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the regional officer association in early 2024.

They were also awarded a Area Courage Honor in July 2024.

"The efforts of the entire team in the end protected themselves and ensured no bystanders endured any harm."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in spring 2024, per the department.
