The families of teenagers missing after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an agonising wait for official news and pleading for clues about their family members online.

The fire ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed footage reveal the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.

Authorities have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of 40 people and hurt another over a hundred.
